As an orthodontic patient myself, I can't stress enough the importance of prophylaxis or preventive care in keeping our braces clean and effective. For one, maintaining good oral hygiene is essential to prevent plaque buildup and gum diseases. Secondly, we should follow the cleaning instructions given by our orthodontist, which includes brushing properly and using floss or interdental brushes. Additionally, scheduling regular dental check-ups and cleanings are vital to monitor our progress and address any issues early on. Lastly, avoiding hard, sticky or sugary foods can prevent damages to our braces and maintain their effectiveness in aligning our teeth.
